Ottawa West Beginner Hockey League (OWBHL)

Welcome to Ottawa's Most Supportive Adult Hockey Community

The Ottawa West Beginner Hockey League (OWBHL) is a fun, safe, and community-focused co-ed adult hockey league located in Kanata and the Ottawa West community. Our league is designed for beginners, women, returning players, and anyone looking to play hockey in a friendly and encouraging environment.

We focus on development, confidence-building, teamwork, and fun — both on and off the ice.

League Activities

  • Weekly Practices – Skill-building, skating fundamentals, game play

  • 3 vs 3 Games – Fast-paced, fun, and great for puck touches

  • Full Ice 5 vs 5 Games – Game experience in a supportive setting

  • Drop-In Sessions / Skate & Shoot – Learn and explore skills freely

  • Women-Focused and New Skater Sessions – Encouraging + welcoming

 

Who Can Join

  • Adult beginners who have always wanted to try hockey

  • Women returning to the game or starting for the first time

  • New Canadians interested in joining hockey culture

  • Players who want a supportive atmosphere instead of a competitive league

  • Skaters looking to build skills before joining beer leagues

Giving Back Matters

We support local food drives and community programs, including the Kanata Food Cupboard. Players are encouraged (never required) to support charitable initiatives.

This helps keep our league grounded, grateful, connected, and community-driven.

  • We play most games at the higher-quality rink facilities, such as the Bell Sensplex (Kanata)

  • Additional rinks across Ottawa West, Nepean, Stittsville, and Kemptville.
