🏒 OWBHA Hockey Education & Injury Prevention Series


The Ottawa West Beginner Hockey Association (OWBHA) is excited to host a 3-session in-person hockey education series designed to help players better understand the game, build confidence, and reduce the risk of injury.


These sessions are open to anyone — beginner players, returning players, women, and adult recreational players — no league experience required.


Each session is led in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment with time for questions and discussion.


🧠 Course Breakdown


Hockey 101 – Understanding the Game

📅 Saturday, March 7⏰ 8:00 – 9:00 PM

This session focuses on core hockey knowledge, including:

  • Understanding hockey equipment

  • Basic rules and game structure

  • Penalties vs. non-calls — what gets called, what doesn’t, and why

  • How recreational and non-contact hockey is officiated


Ideal for new players or anyone who wants to better understand how the game is played and refereed.


Pre-Game Stretching & Mobility (Injury Prevention)

📅 Saturday, March 14⏰ 5:30 – 6:05 PM (35 minutes)

This guided off-ice session focuses on:

  • Proper warm-up techniques before hockey

  • Mobility and flexibility for common hockey movements

  • Reducing the risk of injury

  • Feeling physically ready and confident before games

Great for players of all levels who want to stay healthy and play longer.


Hockey 102 – Game Flow & Decision-Making

📅 Saturday, March 21⏰ 7:00 – 8:00 PM

This session builds on Hockey 101 and covers:

  • Game flow and positioning

  • Reading plays and making decisions under pressure

  • Understanding spacing and support in recreational hockey

  • Next-step development concepts

Perfect for players looking to feel more comfortable during live play.
